+1 Yeah, and also make sure your USB port is USB 3.0 or better—sometimes a slower port can cause weird timeouts.

+1 Also, have you checked if your PC's BIOS or UEFI settings are set to boot in the correct mode, like UEFI vs. Legacy, for that drive?

Agreed. I had the same problem. For me, it turned out the USB port itself was the issue—switching to a port directly on the motherboard fixed the random freezes. Good luck!

You could also try disabling fast startup in Windows power options, as that sometimes conflicts with portable drives. Let me know if that works.

Yeah, Another option is to check if your USB port is providing enough power, as some drives need more than others.

I had the same problem. For me, it turned out the USB drive itself just wasn't fully compatible, even though it was fast on paper.

Agreed. This happened to me, too. I switched to a USB drive specifically listed as compatible on Microsoft's website and the freezing stopped completely.
