Has anyone else had boot issues after trying to upgrade from Windows 10 to 11? M?

Post by kqhLbr »

Has anyone else had boot issues after trying to upgrade from Windows 10 to 11? My PC completed the install but now it just gets stuck on a black screen with a spinning circle. Sometimes it flashes a quick error, something like "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE" before restarting. I can't even get into safe mode. Any ideas on how to fix this without losing my files?

Oh man, that INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE error is a real pain, sorry you're dealing with that. A good first step is to try creating a Windows 10 or 11 installation USB on another computer, boot from it, and use the repair options—that often fixes the boot info without touching your personal files. Let me know if you need a hand walking through those steps! Hope that helps.

This. You could also try running the Windows Startup Repair tool from a USB installation drive.

Agreed. You could also try booting into your BIOS and making sure your drive's SATA mode is set to AHCI, not RAID.

Yeah, that's a good call. Also, if you have any USB drives plugged in, unplug them before you try booting again—sometimes the installer gets confused. Good luck!

Agreed, and one more thing: try disabling any overclocking in your BIOS if you've tweaked those settings—it can sometimes interfere with the upgrade.

Can confirm. You could also try booting from a Windows 11 USB and using the startup repair tool.

You could also check if your storage drivers need updating, especially if you're using an older SSD or RAID setup. Hope that helps.

This. Did you try disabling Secure Boot in your BIOS before the upgrade?

Following these steps fixed my issue as well.
