Ever since I upgraded from Windows 10 to 11, my laptop has been so slow?

Post by 4900hy »

Ever since I upgraded from Windows 10 to 11, my laptop has been so slow. It takes forever to boot up, and apps like Chrome and Word are really laggy when I open them. I don't see any specific error codes, but the fans are constantly running loud. I made sure my drivers are updated. Has anyone else had this and found a fix? My specs should be fine for Windows 11.

Hey there, that's a really common issue after an upgrade, and it's super frustrating. Let's try a couple of simple things first, like checking for any pending Windows updates and adjusting your power plan to "Best performance." If those don't help, just say the word and we can dig into some other fixes together.

You could also run the built-in Disk Cleanup tool to free up space, since a cluttered drive can slow things down. Another option is to check for a pending Windows update, as performance fixes are often released.

You could also try disabling some of the new visual effects in Windows 11, as those can sometimes slow down older hardware. Another option is to check your startup programs and disable any you don't need right away.

Can confirm. Did you check if your power plan got switched to something like "Power Saver" after the upgrade? Let me know if that works.

What are your laptop's specs, like RAM and processor?

This. I had the same problem after upgrading. For me, disabling some of the new visual effects in the performance settings made a noticeable difference.

You could also check if there's a pending BIOS update from your laptop manufacturer, as that sometimes fixes performance quirks after a major OS upgrade.
