Has anyone else hit a wall with the Windows 11 upgrade check? My PC runs Windows?

Post by 94hh1 »

Has anyone else hit a wall with the Windows 11 upgrade check? My PC runs Windows 10 perfectly, but the PC Health App says my CPU isn't supported. It's an Intel Core i7-7700K. I keep getting the "This PC doesn't meet the minimum system requirements" error. I'm confused because it's a 4-core CPU from 2017. Is this really a hard stop, or is there a workaround? I'd rather not do a clean install if I can avoid it.

Yeah this is common. Hey, that's a super common frustration with the 7th Gen Intel chips. Unfortunately, the i7-7700K is indeed a hard stop for the official upgrade path, as Microsoft requires 8th Gen or newer for Intel. There are workarounds involving a clean install with registry edits, but they aren't officially supported and can cause issues with updates. Feel free to ask if you want more details on those options, though! Let me know if that works.

You could also try using the official Media Creation Tool to bypass the checker, though it's not officially supported. Another option is to look into the Windows 11 installation script that removes the CPU check, but that's a more advanced workaround.

+1 Yeah, that script can work, but have you double-checked if TPM 2.0 is actually enabled in your BIOS?

You could also try using the official Microsoft PC Health Check app's troubleshooting details, it sometimes gives a more specific reason than the generic error.

+1 This happened to me with my 7700K. The app was right, it's just not on Microsoft's supported CPU list, which was a real letdown. Hope that helps.

Same here. You could also try using the official Media Creation Tool to bypass the app's check, as it sometimes works. Another option is to look into the Windows 11 installation assistant, which might offer a different path.

+1 Yeah, the 7700K is a tricky one since it's technically on the cusp—have you checked if TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are definitely enabled in your BIOS? Good luck!
