Has anyone else had major slowdowns after upgrading to Windows 11? My laptop, which was fine on Windows 10, is now constantly freezing and apps take forever to open. The disk usage in Task Manager is often at 100% for minutes at a time. I’ve also started getting occasional "System Service Exception" blue screens. I’ve run all the updates, but it hasn’t helped. Any ideas on what to check first?
I had this issue on my older laptop. From what I've seen, that 100% disk usage is often a driver problem or Windows Search indexing. I'd check for updated chipset and storage drivers from your laptop manufacturer's website first.
You could also try temporarily disabling Windows Search to see if that stops the high disk usage. Another option is running the built-in System File Checker by opening Command Prompt as admin and typing **sfc /scannow**.
+1 Agreed, that SFC scan can really help. Also, try turning off visual effects like transparency in your system settings for a quick performance boost.
Yeah, and if you're still seeing high disk usage, check if Windows Search indexing is running in the background—temporarily pausing it can sometimes stop those freezes.
Same here. I had the same problem. For me, turning off the visual effects and transparency in the settings made a noticeable difference in those freezes.
Can confirm. I had the same problem. For me, turning off some of the new visual effects and animations in the accessibility settings helped a lot with the freezing.
