Yeah, You could also try creating a fresh local user profile, as sometimes that forces Windows to rebuild the settings correctly. Another option is to run the System File Checker tool to fix that update error. Let me know if that works.

I had the same problem with my taskbar shortcuts vanishing after the upgrade. For the error, running the Windows Update Troubleshooter actually fixed it for me.

+1 This happened to me too—my desktop shortcuts for a few games were just missing. I had to manually recreate them, which was a pain.

I had the same problem—my taskbar shortcuts vanished and I also started getting that same update error. It felt like a messy reset.

Yeah, that error's a pain. Try running the Windows Update troubleshooter first—it often clears that code right up.

I had the same problem with my shortcuts vanishing after the upgrade. It was a hassle, but I had to just recreate them from the Start menu.

+1 That error code often means a corrupted update cache, so you could try running the Windows Update troubleshooter.

Agreed, the troubleshooter is a good first step. Also, try creating a new user profile—sometimes shortcuts get tied to the old one and don't migrate cleanly. Good luck!
