Has anyone else had privacy settings completely reset after upgrading to Windows?

Post by 2291d3 »

Has anyone else had privacy settings completely reset after upgrading to Windows 11? My microphone and camera access for apps got re-enabled, and now some programs I blocked are asking for permission again. I also got a weird “Settings page unavailable” error (code 0x80070005) when trying to check my activity history. Is there a way to restore my old preferences, or do I have to manually go through every single setting again?

Same here. For that error, try running the troubleshooter by searching for "Find and fix problems with Windows Update" in the Start menu. Let me know if that works.

+1 I had the same problem. After my upgrade, all my location and diagnostic settings were back to default, and I had to spend twenty minutes locking everything down again.

Not 100% sure, but Yeah, that's a common headache after a major update. Your old settings are likely gone, so you'll probably have to go through and manually set them again. For that error code, try running the Windows Privacy Troubleshooter—search for it in Settings. It often fixes those permission glitches after an upgrade. Good luck!

I'm experiencing this too. Would love to know if anyone found a fix.

Agreed. Yeah, that error code usually points to a permission issue—have you tried running the Settings app as an administrator?

Agreed. I had the same problem. After the upgrade, my location settings were turned back on and I had to go through and manually reset everything.

Can confirm. You could also run the built-in privacy troubleshooter by going to Settings > System > Troubleshoot. Another option is to check if a system restore point from before the upgrade is available. Let me know if that works.

Same here. Agreed, the troubleshooter is a good first step. Yeah, it's also worth double-checking those settings again after a reboot, as sometimes they just need a second pass to stick. Let me know if that works.
