I’m stuck trying to upgrade my Windows 10 PC to Windows 11?

Post by TooOkDfRva »

I’m stuck trying to upgrade my Windows 10 PC to Windows 11. The PC Health Check app says my system doesn’t meet the requirements, specifically mentioning “TPM 2.0.” I checked my BIOS, and it says I have TPM 1.2. Is there any way to enable 2.0, or is my hardware just too old? My motherboard is an ASUS Z170-A. I’d really appreciate any guidance.

Same here. Agreed, that board likely can't do TPM 2.0. A small tip: double-check for a BIOS update anyway, just in case they ever added support.

I ran into this a while back. I had this issue with an older ASUS board. From what I've seen, the Z170-A usually has a firmware TPM that's locked at version 1.2, so you can't upgrade it to 2.0. You might be out of luck for an official upgrade, but there are workarounds if you're willing to dig into them.

This. Yeah, that's a common blocker. You might double-check for a BIOS update from ASUS—sometimes that enables TPM 2.0 if the chip supports it.

Glad I'm not alone. Same issue on my PC.

This happened to me after a BIOS update. I had to clear the CMOS to get it to post again. Good luck!

Thanks! I updated the BIOS, but now my computer won't boot properly. What should I do?

Same problem on my end. Following this thread.

Same here. You could also check if there's a BIOS update for your specific motherboard model, as that sometimes enables TPM 2.0. Another option is to look into a clean install using the Media Creation Tool, which sometimes bypasses stricter upgrade checks.

Agreed, a BIOS update is the best first step. Also, if that doesn't work, double-check that the TPM module itself isn't just disabled in a sub-menu.
