That's a common issue with older ASUS boards. You might need to reset your BIOS to factory defaults first, then the option often becomes available to enable.

I’m stuck trying to upgrade from Windows 10 to 11. The PC Health Check app says my computer doesn’t meet the requirements because “Secure Boot” isn’t enabled. I went into my BIOS (UEFI) but the option is greyed out and I can’t turn it on. My motherboard is an older ASUS model. Has anyone else faced this? Is there a way to enable it, or am I just out of luck for Windows 11?

Agreed. Also, if your drives are formatted as MBR instead of GPT, you'll need to convert them before UEFI mode will work properly.

This. Yeah, that's a common snag with older boards. Sometimes you have to switch the BIOS from CSM/Legacy mode to UEFI first, then Secure Boot becomes available.

Agreed. Also, if you switch to UEFI mode, you might need to reinstall Windows fresh for it to work properly.

Same here. I had the same problem with an old ASUS board. A BIOS update was the only thing that finally ungreyed the Secure Boot option for me.

Yeah, and before you reinstall, double-check if there's a BIOS update for your ASUS board—sometimes that unlocks the setting.

Also, if you're still stuck after the update, you might need to clear your TPM in the BIOS first.

+1 You could also check if there's a BIOS update for your ASUS motherboard, as that can sometimes unlock greyed-out Secure Boot options.
