Has anyone else had boot issues after trying to upgrade from Windows 10 to 11? M?

Post by jtsUHz »

Has anyone else had boot issues after trying to upgrade from Windows 10 to 11? My PC restarted as part of the install, but now it just gets stuck on a black screen with a spinning circle of dots. It never progresses. I’ve tried forcing it off and on a few times, but it keeps looping back to the same black screen. No error codes, just the endless spinning. Any ideas on how to fix this or roll back?

Can confirm. You could also try disabling any unnecessary peripherals before the upgrade, like extra monitors or USB devices, as they can sometimes interfere.

Yeah this is common. Oh, that's a frustrating spot to be in! A few of us have seen that happen. You can usually boot from a Windows 10 USB drive and run the repair tools, or try forcing a rollback from the recovery environment—I can walk you through either if you'd like.

+1 Agreed, that repair trick usually works. One extra tip: if you have another PC handy, try recreating the installation media—sometimes the initial download gets corrupted.

Yeah, and if you do that, make sure to boot from the USB and choose "Upgrade" to keep your files.

You could also try booting into safe mode and rolling back the update from there.

Same here. You could also try booting from a Windows 11 USB and using the repair options. Another option is to check if a specific driver, like your graphics driver, is causing the hang.
