Has anyone else had the upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 fail repeatedly? My PC meets the requirements, but the installation gets to about 85% and then rolls back with the error code 0xC1900101. I’ve run the Update Troubleshooter and it didn’t help. What are my options now? Should I try a clean install, or is there a way to fix this update process without losing all my files and programs?
Yeah, that's solid advice. Also, make sure you have a decent chunk of free space on your main drive, as that can sometimes cause it to choke near the end. Let me know if that works.
That error is often driver or software related. First, try temporarily unplugging any non-essential peripherals and disabling your antivirus. If that doesn't work, use the Media Creation Tool to perform an in-place upgrade, which repairs files without touching your data. A clean install is a last resort, as it will wipe your programs.
Agreed. Yeah, that's solid advice. One extra thing: make sure you've got at least 64GB of free space on your C: drive, as the upgrade can silently fail if it's tight.
Can confirm. Also, have you checked if any of your drivers, especially for graphics or chipset, have updates available from your manufacturer's website? Let me know if that works.
I had the same problem. For me, temporarily disconnecting all my external drives and USB peripherals except the mouse and keyboard finally let the upgrade complete.
Agreed. Yeah, that error's a real headache. One extra thing to try is temporarily disconnecting any non-essential USB devices before starting the upgrade again.
