You could also try running the Windows Update Troubleshooter first, as it can sometimes resolve that specific error without needing a clean install.

Yeah, that's a good first step. Also, make sure your drivers, especially for your storage, are updated before trying again.

Agreed, and a quick tip: temporarily disconnect any non-essential USB devices, like printers or extra drives, before you run the upgrade again.
