Has anyone else run into boot issues after trying to upgrade from Windows 10 to ?

Post by ho44gr »

Has anyone else run into boot issues after trying to upgrade from Windows 10 to 11? My PC completed the install but now it just gets stuck on a black screen with a spinning circle. Sometimes it flashes a quick error—I think it said "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE"—before restarting and trying again. I can’t even get to the recovery options. Any ideas on how to fix this without losing my files?

Had the same problem. Oh, that INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE error is a real pain, but don't worry, your files are likely still safe. You might need to boot from a Windows 11 USB drive to run startup repair or check your drive connections. Feel free to share your PC specs if you need more specific steps—happy to help you sort this out.

+1 Yeah, that's solid advice. One extra tip: if startup repair doesn't work, try temporarily disconnecting any non-essential USB drives or external drives before the repair—sometimes they confuse the boot order.

You could also try booting into safe mode and rolling back the driver for your storage controller. Another option is checking if your BIOS is set to UEFI mode with Secure Boot enabled, since Windows 11 requires that.

Agreed, that exact error is super common after the upgrade. A quick tip: try booting into safe mode and running the startup repair tool—it often sorts out those driver conflicts.

Same here. This happened to me, too. Turning off Secure Boot in my BIOS was the only thing that finally got me past that spinning circle.

Yeah, I had the same problem. For me, it was a conflict with an old BitLocker encryption from Windows 10 that the upgrade didn't handle properly.

Same here. Agreed, it's a common headache. A quick tip: try unplugging any USB drives or external drives before the upgrade—sometimes that can cause the boot device error.

Can confirm. I had the same problem. For me, running the startup repair tool from a Windows 11 USB installer finally got things moving again.
