Has anyone else had the upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 fail repeatedly? My PC meets the requirements, but the installation gets to about 85% and then rolls back with the error code 0xC1900101. I’ve run the Update Troubleshooter and it didn’t help. What are my options to finally get this to work, short of a clean install? I really want to keep my files and apps.

That error is a real pain and usually points to a driver or software conflict. Your best bet is to manually update all your drivers, especially chipset and graphics, then temporarily disable any third-party antivirus before trying the upgrade again.

I had the same problem. For me, it was an old VPN client that was causing the rollback every single time.

Yeah, This happened to me. I finally got it to work by using the Media Creation Tool to do a clean install instead of the in-place upgrade.

Same here. You could also try temporarily disabling any third-party antivirus software, as that's another common blocker for these upgrades.

Yeah, that antivirus tip is a good call. Also, double-check you have at least 64GB of free storage, even if you meet the minimum—Windows can be picky about that during the upgrade.

This. I had the same problem. For me, it was a conflict with an old driver for my graphics card that finally let it go through after I updated it.

Agreed. Yeah, that method usually does the trick. One extra tip: temporarily disconnect any non-essential USB devices before starting the upgrade, as they can sometimes interfere.

Can confirm. Also, double-check that you have enough free space on your C: drive, as that can cause rollbacks too.
