I’m trying to upgrade my Windows 10 PC to Windows 11, but the setup keeps failing with error code 0xC1900101. My main worry is my files. I created a system image backup to an external drive, but is that enough? Should I manually copy my Documents folder separately too? I don’t want to lose years of photos and work projects if something goes wrong during the actual upgrade.

Yeah, I'd definitely copy your Documents folder separately as a just-in-case measure. Good luck!

Had the same problem. Hey there, that error can be super frustrating, but you're already on the right track by making a backup! A system image is a great safety net, but for total peace of mind, I'd definitely copy that Documents folder separately to that external drive as well—it's a quick extra step that can't hurt. Let me know if you need help troubleshooting that error code, and we'll get you sorted.

Agreed. Yeah, and just to be sure, have you checked if your PC actually meets all the Windows 11 requirements, like TPM 2.0? Hope that helps.

Agreed, a system image is solid. For extra peace of mind, a quick manual copy of your Documents folder to that same drive wouldn't hurt either.

You could also run the Windows Update Troubleshooter first, as that specific error can sometimes be fixed by clearing update cache.

This. Yeah, that's a good step, and to ease your mind about the files, a system image plus a separate copy of your Documents folder is the safest bet.
