Had the same problem. That error is often tied to a driver or background program. I'd try a clean boot to install, which stops non-essential services from interfering.

This happened to me. I finally got it to work by creating a bootable USB with the Media Creation Tool and doing a clean install instead of the upgrade. Good luck!

Yeah, that error's a real pain. Try temporarily disconnecting any non-essential USB devices before starting the upgrade again.

Can confirm. This happened to me. For me, it was a specific audio driver that was technically updated but just incompatible; rolling it back finally let the upgrade complete.

Has anyone else had the upgrade from Windows 10 to 11 fail repeatedly? My system?

Has anyone else had the upgrade from Windows 10 to 11 fail repeatedly? My system meets the requirements, but the installation gets to about 85% and then rolls back with the generic error code 0xC1900101. I’ve run the Update Troubleshooter and made sure my drivers are updated, but it keeps happening. What other recovery options should I try before doing a clean install? Really hoping to avoid that if possible.

Yeah, that error's a real pain. Try temporarily disconnecting any non-essential USB devices like printers or external drives before starting the upgrade again.

Agreed. You could also try temporarily disconnecting any non-essential peripherals, like extra monitors or printers, during the upgrade. Another option is to use the Media Creation Tool to perform a clean install instead of an in-place upgrade.

This happened to me. I finally got it to work by using the Media Creation Tool to create a USB installer and upgrading from there instead of through Windows Update.

I'm experiencing this too. Would love to know if anyone found a fix.

Thanks! I made the USB, but now it says it can't find any drives to install Windows on. What do I do?
