Not 100% sure, but Unfortunately, you're likely stuck—that motherboard's TPM is only version 1.2, and Windows 11 requires 2.0. You could check your BIOS for a firmware TPM option, but most Z170 boards don't support TPM 2.0, so a motherboard upgrade would be needed. Let me know if that works.

Yeah, that's the main roadblock. Quick tip: double-check your motherboard's support page—some older boards got a TPM 2.0 firmware update from the manufacturer.

Trying to upgrade my PC from Windows 10 to 11, but the PC Health Check app keeps?

Post by 11sbuweqvrf »

Trying to upgrade my PC from Windows 10 to 11, but the PC Health Check app keeps failing me. The message says, "This PC must support TPM 2.0." I checked in tpm.msc and it says I have a TPM, but the spec is 1.2. Is there any way to upgrade my hardware or enable this in BIOS, or am I just stuck? My motherboard is an ASUS Z170-A. Thanks for any help.

+1 You could also check your motherboard manufacturer's website to see if a BIOS update adds TPM 2.0 support for your chipset. Another option is to look into a dedicated TPM 2.0 module if your motherboard has a header for it. Let me know if that works.

Yeah, You could also try enabling fTPM in your BIOS settings, which might use your CPU's built-in security features instead.

+1 Agreed. Also, double-check for a BIOS update from your motherboard's support page, as that can sometimes unlock TPM 2.0 support.

Yeah, You could also try manually enabling fTPM in your BIOS settings if your CPU is relatively modern. Another option is to check if your motherboard manufacturer offers a dedicated TPM module you can purchase and install. Hope that helps.

+1 You could also check for a BIOS update from your motherboard's support site, as newer versions sometimes add TPM 2.0 support. Another option is to use the official Microsoft media creation tool, which sometimes bypasses some checks.

This happened to me. I found a BIOS update for my older motherboard that actually enabled a firmware TPM 2.0 option, and then the upgrade worked.

Thanks! I checked and my board does have a TPM 2.0 update. I turned it on in the BIOS, but now Windows still says my PC doesn't meet the requirements.
