Has anyone else hit a wall with the Windows 11 upgrade check? My PC runs Windows?

Post by K129tcu4 »

Has anyone else hit a wall with the Windows 11 upgrade check? My PC runs Windows 10 perfectly, but the PC Health App says my CPU isn't supported. It's an Intel Core i7-7700K. I keep getting the "This PC doesn't meet the minimum system requirements" error. I'm confused because it's a 4-core chip from 2017. Is this really a hard stop, or is there a workaround? I'd rather not do a clean install if I can avoid it.

This. Yep, it's purely on the list, so you're stuck on Windows 10 for now.

I had this issue with my own 7700K. From what I have seen, it's a hard stop because Microsoft requires specific security features that older chips lack. You can force an install with an ISO, but it's not officially supported and might not get updates.

You could also check if there's a BIOS update from your motherboard manufacturer that might enable the required TPM or Secure Boot settings.

Can confirm. Yeah, that's a common snag—the 7700K is technically capable but just misses Microsoft's cutoff, so a BIOS update likely won't change that.

It's a bummer, but you might want to look into a registry edit workaround if you're feeling adventurous. Hope that helps.

Agreed. This happened to me with my old i7-6700. The workaround did the trick, but I ended up just buying a newer PC later on.

You could also try using the official Media Creation Tool to force the upgrade, bypassing the PC Health App check.

Thanks! So if I'm stuck on Windows 10, will it just stop getting updates at some point?

I'm experiencing this too. Would love to know if anyone found a fix.
