Has anyone else run into boot issues after trying to upgrade from Windows 10 to ?

Post by bn9489 »

Has anyone else run into boot issues after trying to upgrade from Windows 10 to 11? The installation seemed to go fine, but now my PC just gets stuck on a black screen with a spinning circle. Sometimes it flashes a quick error, something like "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE," before restarting. I can't even get into safe mode. Really hoping to fix this without a full wipe. Any ideas?

Yeah, that INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE error is a known headache with some upgrades. Your best bet is to boot from your Windows 11 USB installer and run the startup repair tool from there.

Yeah, Did you happen to have any third-party antivirus or disk encryption software running before you started the upgrade?

This. I had the same problem. For me, it was my old antivirus causing a conflict, and I had to boot into safe mode to remove it.

Yeah, that antivirus thing is super common—did you manage to get into safe mode to check?

I had the same problem. For me, it was a driver conflict with an old SSD, and I had to roll back the update from the recovery menu. Hope that helps.

This. Yeah, that's a common fix. One extra tip: if you can get into recovery, try running the startup repair tool first—it sometimes catches those driver issues.

Also, have you tried booting into safe mode to see if it's a driver conflict? Let me know if that works.

+1 You could also try using the Windows 11 installation media to run a startup repair. Another option is checking your BIOS to make sure it's set to UEFI mode, not legacy. Let me know if that works.

You could also try booting into safe mode and rolling back the update. Another option is checking if your storage drivers need an update from your manufacturer's website. Good luck!
